Payment: Exposure and Royalties
60% of profits received
50% off RP paperback contributor copies (cost)

Word Count: Up to 5000 preferred

LONESOME TRAIN – the last Train anthology I did (for Static Movement) was something else, would very much like to repeat that if I can and you have the stories for it. Anything to do with trains, steam trains, diesel trains, deserted stations, abandoned lines, abandoned sheds and engines, abandoned lines still walked by – who? what? does anything hanker for the old days and still live there? Explore the whole scene of the Lonesome Train in any and every way you can.  Usual guidelines please, no headers or footers (still getting them), top word limit of 5000, no minimum, no extra lines between paragraphs and all new paragraphs and dialogue indented using the TAB key. Let’s make this a winner, too!

I will accept poetry as well.

Reprints are OK as long as all rights have been reverted back to you.

Submission guidelines:

Please submit your manuscript as a *.rtf, *.doc or *.docx file (all other formats will automatically be rejected. Contact me prior to submitting if this presents an issue for you.)

Please only send ONE story if you are new to Thirteen. The editor will let you know if she wants to see any more. Multiple submissions are not good practice.

No headers, footers or page numbers.

Please check grammar.

Upon acceptance into the anthology, you agree that Horrified Press holds exclusive publishing rights for six months from the date of publication. All intellectual property rights over the author’s work remain with the author, with the proviso that Horrified Press retains distribution rights in the format of the contracted anthology.

Flash fiction, Poetry, Short Stories (2,000 6,000 words)

A god has risen. An elder god of chaos. A god that the Dark Land of Egypt once knew. A frog headed abomination that dwells–where? In the gloom of the collective unconscious? In the crazy depths of the internet? In the minds of conspiracy theorists and muddle minded political fanatics? As insubstantial as a dream–or a nightmare. In a world increasingly fragmented, where right and left, atheism and religion, sanity and lunacy struggle for supremacy, who is the true manifestation of KEK?

Savannahswidely spaced areas full of strange, unusual herbivorous animals and other ferocious predators, be they beasts or wild human plunderers, characterized by seasonal water availability, in a sort of Fantasy African-like setting; Jungles: lands covered with dense vegetation, full of trees and, at times, of ancient ruins of lost, or hidden, peoples, set in Fantasy sceneries that stimulate our fancy.

Think, for example, of:

“…several towns of the Dead almost forgotten that force the predestined researchers to meet supernatural beings along the way in an alternate African-like/African-inspired setting before getting to the fabled treasures – if ever; unusual colorful fruit whose healing properties are so respected that would easily convince desperate people to try their best to find and take them wherever they may be; and many more strange, perilous creatures who inhabit these interesting and very characteristic worlds of fancy full of strange plants and trees, where experience, readiness and personal skills make the difference between life and death, once the beat of unknown dangerous wings – not identified on time…- at your back, or in the sky, might mean that you could never react and properly protect yourself…”

  8. Interested in Barbarian Crowns II. What sort of timeframe are we looking at? My story is about half completed, just looking at a rough deadline.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stan.

  9. Any word on the status of Ad Nauseam: A Return to Splatterpunk? I tried e-mailing T.M. McLean, but haven’t received a reply. I’ve submitted a story, but I don’t know if it has been accepted/rejected or even received.

      • It’s been over a month and I still haven’t heard anything. I really would like to know what’s happening with this. If this anthology isn’t going forward I would like to submit my story elsewhere, but I’d like to give this one a chance before I do that.

      • Hey,

Apologies for the late reply, but we have been unable to contact this editor. If this project doesn’t move forward by November end then I will be putting out the call for those already accepted to re-forward their contracts and pieces directly to me, so that the book can be completed for an Xmas release. It wouldn’t be an ideal scenario, but I would like to see this book completed for all concerned.

  10. My story Forcing the Bar at Maracaibo was accepted for Bottle of Rum back in January of this year. However, I see it listed above as having been accepted for another anthology entitled Moment by Moment. I’ve twice made enquiry of the editor in this regard but have received no reply. What gives?

  11. Are you still looking for submissions for Barbarian Crowns II? It’s still listed here but I don’t see it mentioned on the Current Acceptances page. Thanks!

  12. Stupid question: If Barbarian Crowns is still open, the world that the stories take place in should be referred to as the Southlands? Or was that an example? Lol

  13. I was wondering how full the Thirteen O’clock Press “Alone” is. I have a poem that might fit, but I still have some edits to make. If it’s going to be closed soon I might not have time to finish.

    Thanks!

  18. Will there be more detailed submission guidelines posted for “Blue Gonk III”? I know the editor’s name (James Pyne), preferred genre (dark/horror), and the word count (500). What I don’t know: story formatting details, submission deadline, and how to word the e-mail ‘Subject’ line Thanks!

  19. For “Fantastical Savannahs and Jungles”, and in general, does your request for a period of exclusivity also apply to reprints (e.g. from books that are still in print)?
