DEVIL’S ARMORY III

Deadline: April 5th, 2017

Payment: Exposure and Royalties

Flash fiction, Poetry, Short Stories (2,000 6,000 words)

Re-prints will also be considered.

Weapons of power can be double edged. For every enchanted blade there is a cursed sword. The warrior who wields one of these weapons will triumph against foe after foe, and yet the blade may be his own downfall. Tyrfing, forged by dwarfs under duress, had three curses to leaven its three virtues. Kullervo used the talking sword of the god Ukko to slay all his foes, and yet in the end it was with that blade that the troubled hero took his own life. Elric’s sentient blade Stormbringer drank the blood and souls of its victims in return for victory in the fight, but it was an uneasy, Faustian pact between swordsman and sword, ending in tragedy…

We’re looking for high adventure tales from long lost realms, tales of sword and sorcery, powerful, yet tainted weapons from the Devil’s own armory.

STEAM-POWERED DREAM ENGINES

Those Steampunk inventions/finds that were supposed to make our alternate world better

Deadline: until full

Payment:Exposure and Royalties

Short stories up to 6,000 words; Longer stories will also be considered.

Reprints: just in some restricted, limited cases, as long as you hold the rights.

It would be really great to receive stories set in other countries or continents like, for example, Sweden, Russia, Africa, Australia, and many other foreign places, in a sort of alternate Steampunk(ish) 1800’s. But there are no limitations to this Steampunk call, as alternate U.S.A. and Canada settings are just as perfect. The more exotic, the better…

Just think of the outcome or the consequences of some steam-powered machinery that can turn gases into valuable gems; or is capable of ruling over your dreams by driving out the nightmares. Or maybe you could write about some new alternate find that can really change our world – by transforming it into a fairy-tale, more than into a futuristic civilization. Some unknown stones whose hidden energy may finally be extracted in this universe, and may surpass any power supply previously coming from fossil fuels, despite it being only the source of some worse problems that will affect modern society much deeper. Perhaps new electricity-powered sex dolls appear at the end of the last decade of the 1800’s and are endangering the existence of the previous expensive and widely spread steam-powered human-like sex dolls that some company already sold… and so on… but I’m only giving you some hints

Waiting for your best-ever-entries, of course, to be welcomed in this Anthology featuring fictitious Steampunk(ish) technology that was supposed to improve our alternate world during the 1800’s. But did things really go that way…?

Swords against Cthulhu: A New Dark Age

Deadline: June 29th, 2017

Payment: Exposure and Royalties

Flash fiction, Poetry, Short Stories (2,000 6,000 words)

Re-prints will also be considered.

Sword and sorcery in the aeon of Cthulhu Rising!

The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

So saith Lovecraft.

Picture a future Earth, a savage world where science has been jettisoned in favour of primitive superstition, where technology has become the idol of a new religion. A world where the truth of Cthulhu has been revealed, where a lunatic humanity has learnt its true insignificance—the punchline in a cosmic joke. A new dark age has descended upon a world that has learnt too much. Science and superstition and the sorcery of the Mad Arab create a world where only the strong survive, and barbarian warriors battle for survival in a bleak and pitiless universe…

Science fantasy tales of dying earths, of low tech dystopias, of medieval post-apocalyptic worlds—all with a Cthulhu Mythos slant—will be welcome in this anthology.

      • It’s been over a month and I still haven’t heard anything. I really would like to know what’s happening with this. If this anthology isn’t going forward I would like to submit my story elsewhere, but I’d like to give this one a chance before I do that.

      • Hey,

Apologies for the late reply, but we have been unable to contact this editor. If this project doesn’t move forward by November end then I will be putting out the call for those already accepted to re-forward their contracts and pieces directly to me, so that the book can be completed for an Xmas release. It wouldn’t be an ideal scenario, but I would like to see this book completed for all concerned.

  10. My story Forcing the Bar at Maracaibo was accepted for Bottle of Rum back in January of this year. However, I see it listed above as having been accepted for another anthology entitled Moment by Moment. I’ve twice made enquiry of the editor in this regard but have received no reply. What gives?

  11. Are you still looking for submissions for Barbarian Crowns II? It’s still listed here but I don’t see it mentioned on the Current Acceptances page. Thanks!

  12. Stupid question: If Barbarian Crowns is still open, the world that the stories take place in should be referred to as the Southlands? Or was that an example? Lol

  13. I was wondering how full the Thirteen O’clock Press “Alone” is. I have a poem that might fit, but I still have some edits to make. If it’s going to be closed soon I might not have time to finish.

    Thanks!
